The Augusta Market {at the river}

local farmers market, Augusta, GeorgiaIf you haven’t made it to The Augusta Market at the River you better hurry on down, it will only be open until October 27th.  It is open Saturdays 8 am until 2 pm on 15 8th Street, downtown Augusta.  The weather is great right now and it is a pleasurable stroll through a plethora of smells, sights and sounds.  I loved the produce I bought but not as much as I enjoyed talking with the folks who grew it!  It’s such a personal shopping experience actually meeting the growers and artisans who make/grow the products you buy.  I fell in love with a darling greyhound I met at the Greyhound Crossroads booth.  Please check them out if you are looking for a loyal, sweet and laid back companion.  These darlings deserve a home!  I loved the handmade soaps from Luna Bug.  I bought a lemongrass bar that smelled terrific.  Sadly, I never got to use it because it made a great hostess gift for my friends that had me over for dinner that night!  They also scored the fabulous olive bread I bought from Manuel’s Bread Cafe!  I enjoyed a fab pumpkin cupcake from the gals of Crepes and Cakes.  I found some gorgeous handmade jewelry from the artisans of EarthWare Jewelry.  I love their mix metals and hand fired raku beads.  If you miss the market on Saturdays don’t worry you can order up fresh, locally grown produce all week long from Augusta Locally Grown.  Send me a note and let me know your favorite finds at the market.  Have a great weekend!

Happy Labor Day Weekend

It’s one thing to start a blog and quite another to actually do it and keep it going.  This point is exactly why I made myself get out of my house today and do something that would be content for this blog.  Being particularly adept at procrastination, this was quite out of character for me.  I decided to do something that was pretty easy to come up with and, well, something that I have always meant to do.  I visited the Augusta Museum of History on Reynolds Street.  It was only $1 to get in (bonus) however, after today, it goes back to $4.  Still a good deal.  It was so hot, I was glad to go on a cool and quiet journey through Augusta’s history.  It’s takes about 1 and 1/2 hours to go through the exhibits and it was interesting to see all the artifacts from the Native Americans through the Federal Era, Antebellum period, Civil War, Reconstruction and the making of the New South.  I particularly enjoyed the James Brown and the Famous Augustans Exhibits.  I saw some cool things like the Petersburg Boat that has made two trips to Savannah and back and a lot of history about Augusta that I did not know.  There’s plenty to capture the kiddies’ attention as well. On Sunday, September 2, check out The Commons Jazz Festival 2012 at 836 Reynolds Street.  Gates open at 5:00, bring your own seating.  For tickets ($20 for adults, kids under $12 free and Military, Seniors and Students $15)  For ticket info call 706.495.6238.  Also, 2012 Augusta Artwalk on Sunday as well 2-5, free.  My plans for the weekend are still up in the air  but I will be sure to fill you in on all the awesomeness I find!  Let me know what you are up to as well.  If you want to get the word out about a happening or an event, send me an email here.  Oh, there’s a blue moon this weekend!  Have a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend!

New in Town

Hi there!  I’ve just moved back to Augusta after 16 or so years and I find Augusta is still being treated as a backwards, no place to live kinda town.  Now, I have found that where you live is relative to nothing but geography and what you make of it.  You can be miserable in paradise and happy in hell.  So, I  strive to find the most interesting and fun things to do and explore in the CSRA from shopping, food, activities to the arts and all things in between.  I hope to get input and recommendations from those who live here.  Please no haters.  You will be ignored.  Check back often to see what I discover.  Ciao!
